Sunday Service: Water Ceremony

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga 84 South Service Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Sunday September 12th, 2021 We are gathering in person this Sunday for our annual Water Ceremony at 10:30am! This is our first time physically together since March 2020 and I am both thrilled and a little anxious. While I have led Zoom services from the Great Hall, having our community together at last is special. And of course not everyone can be there - we have a limit of 60 attendees - and some may not be ready to return - so we will also be together on Zoom as a multi-platform experience. Masks are required indoors and chairs will be spaced into household groups. We won't be able to sing together but can hum along to Abigail's beautiful voice. Don't forget to wear blue and bring water from a special source. More details and the registration form can be found on our website. In Person Register here: https://uucm.ca/waterservice2021/ Please bring some water to pour into the common bowl.  A limited number of vials of water will be available for those who forget. Our safety protocols include: Limit to 60 attendees Registration in advance Children and Youth outside with DLL Attendees be fully vaccinated Masks must be worn indoors Chairs will be spaced into household groups Outside until service begins Exit outside when service ends No congregational singing Soloist sings behind plexiglass Open windows and doors We are doing our best to protect our vulnerable population of elders and unvaccinated children while being together. Online Sunday Service: Here Now

Online , Canada

This Sunday at 10:30am we can all enjoy the service from the comfort of homes, sipping coffee! We are returning to an all on-line experience, giving us time to repair our malfunctioning speakers, monitor the Delta variant rise, and all be together on one platform. It was joyful to meet in-person for the water ceremony in the Great Hall, a balm to my spirit to feel all that good energy. We regret the zoom link mishap that prevented many of you from joining via Zoom, I know watching the livestream on YouTube isn't quite the same. This Sunday I am thinking about how we manage to care for the world and for ourselves in the midst of so much change and crisis. How do we help while we are also struggling? How can Unitarian Universalism sustain us? Looking ahead, given our ground breaking vote to affirm the eighth principle in June - the first Canadian congregation to do so - I will be offering reflections on all the principles in the months to come, beginning on September 26th with our newest principle to affirm and promote “Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and other oppressions in ourselves and in our institutions.” We have learning and work to do to help dismantle racism in our denomination. This Sunday evening the Canadian Unitarian Council is hosting the first of four...

Death Café

Online , Canada

The purpose of a Death Café is to provide a safe and nurturing place to discuss and share our questions, beliefs, and experiences about death. There is nothing that we share more globally than the experience of death, both our own and that of those we love, yet it remains one of the deepest taboos. In recognizing that talking about death is often difficult, it can give us a level of comfort when we can do so, which serves us well moving forward. Whereas there are many ways to engage with this journey, we will be participating in a series of discussions facilitated by an experienced and caring moderator. You will be encouraged to look at aspects that are of particular interest, such as “Having a Good Death” “Death and the Journey of Dying“ and “Grief and Grieving”. There will also be a time of communal sharing with an open forum to enable a deep dive into this most human experience. Sunday Service: Dismantle Oppression

Online , Canada

This Sunday at 10:30am we can all enjoy the service from the comfort of homes, sipping coffee! This Sunday is the first of an occasional series on the eight principles. Our brand new eighth principle affirms "Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions". UCM is the first Canadian congregation to formally adopt this principle. Today we explore Canada’s truth and reconciliation work with indigenous people. We say we have eight principles to guide our choices, six sources to nourish our spirits and five aspirations to help us grow. The new eighth principle - affirmed by us last June - calls us to "Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and other oppressions in ourselves and in our institutions." This Sunday at 10:30am I will look at the theological basis on the eighth principle and how it may guide us in truth and reconciliation work with indigenous people. While it is difficult work to do, it's a joy to be part of a culture shift that nurtures diversity and liberates those voices too often silenced. You can read more about the principle on our website. This is the first of a series on the principles - next week we continue with the seventh principle and in later months we will return to the rest, deepening our understanding of this essential faith framework. We will continue on-line this Sunday with Zoom and YouTube options. I am so sorry for the problems getting through, the link was corrupted in our e-news. The link is now clean and correct, but if you do have trouble getting through, please contact Marc Xuereb via text at 647-217-1348 or check our Facebook page. Sunday Service: Connect with the Earth

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga 84 South Service Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

We are gathering in person this Sunday at 10:30am!  This Sunday at 10:30am I will be exploring our seventh principle, the one dearest to my heart: respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. Despite the awkward wording, this is the principle which affirmed for me that Unitarian Universalism was my spiritual home. How does a theology of interdependence guide us in this time of climate crisis? We welcome Susan Berry as a new service leader and she will also be speaking to the good work of the Mississauga Climate Action Group. This is a multi-platform service - we will be in person in the Great Hall, with Zoom and YouTube options. At the building, we will stay outside before the service (unless it is raining) and exit shortly after. We are working on safety protocols to bring a safe return to coffee hour in a few weeks. Please register for contact tracing purposes but know that you can also just show up on the day. Thank you all for your patience as we live into this new way of being together.
