Online – UCM Book Club: Molly of the Mall: Literary Lass and Purveyor of Fine Footwear

Online , Canada

After reading The Rose Code and The Splendid and the Vile - both very good books set in WWII, it was decided by consensus, that a humourous book would be our pick for summer reading. Molly of the Mall: Literary Lass and Purveyor of Fine Footwear, by Heidi L. M. Jacobs, won the Stephen Leacock Award for 2020.  Molly is a delightfully whimsical protagonist. Always informed by the characters from literature she loves, she approaches life in her own unique, and fanciful, way. Such fun to follow the retail nightmares and romantic comedy mishaps of this Austenian heroine of mid-90s in Edmonton. The story captures the malaise and pretension of every undergraduate English course ever. Molly is wicked good fun. We keep a list of possible books to read in the future. All our books are decided by consensus and the list is constantly evolving. If you would like to know more or to see our current list, please email Beverly beverlzcarr@gmail.com Mark your calendars for the afternoon of Tuesday, September 26, and join us! Sunday Service: The Sunny Hill

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga 84 South Service Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Whatever our theologies are – and whether we're fully aware of it or not – something calls Unitarian Universalists forward to a distant goal. Some label this a 'call', others 'the lure'. It can feel like inspiration or a drive or a need. Guest minister, Stephen Atkinson, a retired UU minister who served North Shore Unitarian Church in West Vancouver in the past and guest preaches on occasion in southern Ontario, will look at this onward call, and how we might respond to it. Rev. Stephen Atkinson preaching, with Service Associate Colleen Good. UCM participation in the Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga 84 South Service Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Starting from a space of gratitude let's open our hearts in supporting people who are facing food insecurity across Mississauga. The Mississauga Food Bank has changed its name and branding to Food Banks Mississauga but still continues doing critical work in helping neighbours get food and support they need. Did you know that Food Banks Mississauga provides food for almost 6 million meals through their network each year? Donations of food items and personal care items are always welcomed but monetary donation makes a greater impact in reaching more and more people. Please consider giving generously and according to your means. We will do this as part of the October 8th service. In gratitude, Angela Loconte

Sunday Service: To Know Where You’re Going, Know Where You’ve Been – Part I

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga 84 South Service Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Religious communities all have a past—a founding story, milestones of sorrow and of triumph. And those who live in religious community have a "past" with religion—happy notions of community life, bad theological break ups, boredom and burn-out. Today we explore the past of UCM and your past with religion, including this one. Rev. Rita preaching, with Service Associate John Rowell.
