Culture writer and Black feminist Evette Dionne wrote “Joy is a revolutionary force. We need it as much as we need anger because it is joy that will help keep us in these bodies long enough to enact justice.” While we usually can identify the joy in our lives, don’t we struggle a bit with guilt about it as suffering surrounds us?
Join us at Friendship Hour for a Caribbean Potluck, with a chance to learn about the art of the steel drum with Dejehan Hamilton. All are welcome, whether you can bring a dish or not.
Our theme for spiritual exploration activities this year is All Around the World in Mississauga: Cultures and Cuisines. We are continuing with recipes and spices from Caribbean cuisine. Physical copies which will be available after service and the links to the recipes can be found in the Shining Chalice. Throughout the month, families are encouraged to try making the different recipes together and bring a favourite dish for the potluck after service.

Many things in life can have us feeling like we just can’t make it—big things like the failing health of a loved one, little things like the ding in the car door that is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. What can we do to build stamina with internal resources, to foster resilience, to resist despair and suffering? Worship led by the Rev. Rita Capezzi, with Service Associate Charlotte Ferworn.

The Sharing Our Faith fund is a program of the Canadian Unitarian Council, supporting projects that enhance ministry, growth, and outreach for congregations and for the Unitarian Universalist movement in Canada. It is designed to encourage greater associational awareness in our congregations, the fostering of relationships, and a sense of community and connection among and between our member congregations and communities. A special collection will be taken at this service to support the “Sharing Our Faith” program.
After service, this time is for young adults (18-35) to get to know each other through meditations, games, and icebreakers.

The Renaissance and industrial revolution have resulted in our technologically advanced culture with its promise of unprecedented luxury and comforts for all. The underlying mythology of our time is based on a model of individualism, and a philosophy that breaks complex systems into its small components and works with these isolated bits to maximize efficiency.
