This Sunday, Rev. Victoria shares insights about truth, realism, and integrity – elements of authenticity. We tell our children it’s wrong to lie, then demonstrate to them how to lie in service to good manners and harmonious relationships. We live in an era where we’re encouraged to “speak our truth.” But is that always the best strategy?

Come join us for a quiet reflective morning of poetry, beloved and old, as well and new and experimental. From the ancient Persian poet Rumi to recent Punjabi-Canadian spoken word phenom Rubi Kaur. There is a poem for every season and every reason. Poetry holds great meaning to many of us, favourites are read at weddings, funerals and other events of significance. Our UU services are enriched with the words of Wendell Berry and Mary Oliver among others. We will explore how poetry speaks to us and deepens our spirit. Led by Service Leader Wendy Shusterman
Please join me for refreshments on Thursday, Aug 24 from 3-5 PM to say thanks to Alison and wish her well in her studies in Environmental Sciences at Guelph University. We have been very fortunate this summer to have had Alison Vlasics working for us on the gardens and grounds (largely funded by a grant from Canada Student Jobs and special donations). With her intitiative and hard work, the gardens look very healthy, the second floor of the barn is very clean and organized, the furnace room has received much needed attention and she has organised and promoted the Trunk Sale happening this Saturday 8:30 - 11:30. Thanks also to all the volunteers who have come out to assist Alison. Joan Hill
We trust those in authority to be responsible. We try to be responsible ourselves, and work to help our children be the same. But it’s not always so simple. What about when two or more situations all call for some responsibility - but they conflict? We invite you to think about this when you attend this Sunday. We will talk in small groups to see if we can sort out some of these conflicts (and no doubt think of some more). Led by Service leader Jean Mackie
Please stay for a simple lunch after the service on Sunday, August 27th! After lunch there will be about a 2 hour clean-up session so please stay if you can to help clean windows and other tasks to get our building ready for the coming year! Please email cathytafler@gmail.com with any questions.
