Sunday Service: Climate Choices

September 15 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

We are in the midst of a planet wide climate crisis. This morning we find hope in the midst of despair, as we explore the power of community in the face of an uncertain future.  There will be laughter yoga! As Unitarian Universalists we acknowledge that we are part of the interdependent web of life, we belong to the earth, we are part of all that is. The climate emergency -  with weather extremes and shifting climate impacts on the poor - asks us to take our 7th principle seriously. So we seek, as a collective, to reduce our negative impact on the environment (through our Green Sanctuary efforts), and we work towards greater social and cultural shifts. This Sunday at 10:30 I will be exploring the hope and opportunity to be found in the groundswell of climate action. We will also hear from Susan Berry about the activities of the Mississauga Climate Action Group. Unitarian Universalists across North America are rising up and joining climate actions as the United Nations Climate Action Summit occurs in New York on September 23rd. Here in Canada, we are focused on the Climate Strike on Friday Sept 27th. I will be participating in the Brampton Strike and I encourage UCM members to join me. If you live closer to downtown Toronto, First Toronto is organizing there. Swedish youth activist Greta Thunberg will be in Montreal that day. Over 850 cities across the planet have a strike action planned that day. I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday. Blessings, Fiona

UCM Youth Group

September 15 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga Youth Group

WELCOME BACK YOUTH!  Starting this Sunday September 15, the UCM YOUTH GROUP will begin meeting in the barn most Sunday mornings from 10:30 to around noon. At this first meeting, Youth group members will discuss their ideas for the year ahead. The UCM Youth Group has in the past had monthly Friday night social outings, participated and fund raised for social action projects, explored parts of the Unitarian Youth curriculum and joined inter-generational services and activities of the congregation. I wonder what they will plan for this year? The lead facilitator for YOUTH GROUP is Neal DenHollander. Need more info? Contact Sheila Bjarnason, Interim DLL, at sbjarn@gmail.com.
