Sunday Service: Water Ceremony – Shining Waters

September 8 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

On this joyful Sunday join us at 10:30am for our all ages Water Ceremony. This ritual celebrates the healing strength of community as we begin our new congregational cycle after the quiet of summer. Bring a vial of water from home or a place that nourished your spirit - we pour the water into the water chalice, replenishing the community. Wear blue!  We welcome Dejehan Hamilton on the steel drums for a very special musical experience. The Unitarian Universalist water ceremony began in 1980 when two UU women—Carolyn McDade and Lucile Schuck Longview—were asked to create a worship service for the Women and Religion Continental Convocation of Unitarian Universalists. McDade and Longview wanted to create a new ritual “that spoke to our connectedness to one another, to the totality of life, and to our place on this planet.” They chose to use water, considering water as "more than simply a metaphor. It is elemental and primary, calling forth feelings of awe and reverence...." Here at UCM, water is a symbol of the healing and empowering nature of our spiritual community. In caring for one another we grow stronger together. After the service, plan to stay for a light lunch and time to connect with one another. I look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday. Blessings, Fiona
