Sunday Service: Troubled Waters

February 10 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga Sunday Service

Read Reverend Fiona's Reflection. In this week of freezing rain and icy drizzle we honour the waters of the world in our service on Sunday at 10:30am. Climate change is fundamentally altering the ways of water, with rising sea levels, floods in some places, droughts in others, and here - rain in February. This Sunday, we sit with our grief for water and lift up those working to heal the waters of the world. Amidst the icy puddles lies hope and opportunity. Water is the focus of our Green Sanctuary work for the next few months, and was chosen because Unitarian Universalists across the country are focused on water as a justice issue, supported by our national denomination, the Canadian Unitarian Council.  This Sunday we are holding a special collection for the CUC, to help congregations "share our faith."  Please give generously so that the people of the chalice can be leaders in environmental justice. Please consider staying after service for our first hour long Green Sanctuary workshop, we will learn more about the problems of using bottled water and explore some actions we can take individually and collectively to care for water. Feel free to bring your brown-bag lunch. I look forward to being with you this Sunday. Blessings,   Fiona

Green Sanctuary Workshop: Water Pollution and Bottled Water

February 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga Eco Workshop

Water Pollution and Bottled Water Congregational Conversation after service Sunday, Feb. 10 As part of our Green Sanctuary initiative in 2019, the Green Sanctuary Committee is sponsoring a Congregational Conversation on Water Issues after service (approx. 11:45) on Sunday February 10th. We will watch a short film called The Story of Bottled Water (8 min.), and then have a discussion on what our congregation can do about reducing the pollution of bottled water in our community. Possible action plans could be letter-writing or social media campaigns, and involvement in boycott actions. The film describes successful actions that other organizations have undertaken on this issue. Let's take action!
