Bring your favourite animal in body or in spirit via a photograph for a special service where we celebrate the joys of animal companionship. Animals must be comfortable with crowds and noise and be leashed or caged. Small animals are welcome to come in their cages.
I will have a special guest with me this Sunday, my dog Tikko. Tikko has been my faithful companion for the past ten years, through the thick and thin of living, and I ‘m delighted to bring him to our all ages Blessing of the Animals service, although my two cats, Tempest and Blaze, will be staying home.
Honouring animals is a way to ritually express support of our seventh principle, respect for the interdependent web of all existence. Relationships with animals can be joyous, healing, and connect us to life on earth in profound experience. We are all kin.
Dogs, cats, lizards, bunnies, bring your favourite companion. If your animal will be too stressed by the experience, bring a photo or stuffed animal so we can recognize them in the ritual. We will also need some volunteers on the day to honour farm and wild animals.
Tikko and I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
