We are gathering in person this Sunday at 10:30am!
While I am cheering the overwhelming affirmation of the eighth principle at last Saturday’s national vote, I am at the same time despairing over the new COVID variant and the general state of the world. I suspect some of you may be similarly struggling with holding all the good and all the troubles, especially now as we look towards the holidays of light while our own lights flicker in strong winds. So it is timely that this Sunday at 10:30am our multi-platform service focuses on our third principle – acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations. It is times like these that we need to grow our spirits, right size our troubles, and steady our inner flame. We will also enjoy the Christmas tree, a gift of music from the choir (a new video!) and wrap up our Canvass campaign.

I am grateful to our three delegates to the Canadian Unitarian Council’s national meeting for the 8th principle vote – Charmaine Ferworn, Helen Graham, and John Rowell. Thank you for representing us in this historic moment. Canada is the first country to adopt a new principle since 1985 when the seventh principle was added. Rev. Anne Barker, President of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers of Canada asked “When we look back to this moment in history, what will our next steps reveal? May the story show a determined and continued effort on the part of all Canadian UUs – to live fully into all eight of our Principles and to remain responsive to the growth and evolution of this living tradition.” The 8th Principle Task Group is developing strategies for leadership to develop an anti-racist lens and planning more adult spiritual development sessions, look for more information in January.
May each of us find ways to tend to our lights and kindle the lights of others.
Blessings,
Fiona
