This Sunday at 10:30am we warmly welcome Rev. Linda Thomson, Congregational Life Staff for the Canadian Unitarian Council, our national denominational body. Rev. Linda will explore what it means to embrace our identities as Unitarian Universalists and the earmarks of a UU congregation that lives with Integrity. How does all of this play out in a tradition that rejects the idea of ‘the right’ answer? Our Voices UUnited choir will share a beautiful UU song.
This Sunday is also our Annual Budget Meeting, beginning shortly after the service ends. As part of our commitment to our fifth principle of democracy, your presence is encouraged at the meeting.
Last Sunday we celebrated our annual fire ceremony by the campfire, followed by a lovely lunch (thank you to Sheila and Paula and all the helpers). We were all shocked by the flare of fire during the fire ritual, a reminder that fire, like all of earth’s elements, has a dangerous aspect. I am grateful it was just a quick flare, and there was no lasting harm. Life is full of risks but our intention is that the service is both physically and emotionally safe for all. I am sorry for the shock and the Worship Committee will be reviewing the use of flash paper for next year’s fire ritual.
Next Sunday, February 5th, in the spirit of innovation, I will be hosting a lunch and watch party for the annual Sharing our Faith national service, which will be livestreamed at 1:00pm. Come after 12:00pm for lunch. There will be no UCM service that morning.
