We are gathering in person and on Zoom this Sunday at 10:30am!
Like many of you I have been disturbed by the shocking but not surprising indication from the U.S. Supreme Court that they will be moving to upend established law around reproductive rights. As we head towards an election in Ontario on June 2nd, it is a stirring reminder for me to pay close attention to the candidates in my riding, the party platforms and voting history, so that I can help elect people who care about the rights and freedoms of women, LGTBQ+ and IBPOC folks, and those in economic distress. Our fifth principle calls us to practice democracy, and I encourage you to get engaged, your voice matters.
This Sunday at 10:30am our multiplatform service looks at the larger landscape of international unitarian universalism, where it is a time of transition and release. Where in our own lives might we need to transition and release? Can we see change as a kind of liberation? Rev. Fiona and service leader Devin Kruger will ponder the power of liberation.
As it is also Mother’s Day, consider inviting your mother or your children to join you for the morning, all will be warmly welcomed! We will hear from FLC Caitlyn about the Unitarian who helped inspire Mother’s Day with a stirring call for peace. We will also have a special ritual with pebbles and water to acknowledge and honour the mothering figures in our lives.

More Time for All Ages
This Sunday (the 8th), the story is Mama: A World of Mothers and Motherhood by Hélène Delforge. Published this year, this story reflects on motherhood’s many aspects and illustrates mothers from around the world with watercolour and pencil.
The discussion questions below focus on principles 1 and 3. I encourage parents and/or guardians to share their answers to these questions with their families.
Principle 1: The inherent worth and dignity of every person/Everyone is important
Principle 3: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations/We should accept one another and keep learning together
- Do you feel like a “successful” parent? Define what success means to you. Why or why not?
- What values do you emphasize in parenting?
- What skills did your parents teach you about parenting or what skills about parenting do you hope to pass on to your children?
- How does attending this congregation encourage you to think about parenting differently?
