This Sunday at 10:30am we have our joy filled flower ceremony live from the Great Hall! I am delighted to be zooming from there along with Abigail and tech support. The outside garden will be a sight for sore eyes; we will also enjoy some special videos of music and flowers as we celebrate the wonderful diversity of life. The anthem this year is special, the choir is singing a song written by former Music Director Amy Dolittle. For the actual flower ritual we will be spotlighting each household on zoom, so please have a flower ready and dress in your brightest colours or favourite floral print. If you don’t feel able to participate, just keep your video off and you won’t be spotlighted.

Joy and sorrow are intimate companions and even as we celebrate, we mourn. Many are living with tender hearts after the news of the killing of the Muslim family in London, Ontario. The board has released a statement of principle (see below). The past few weeks have made it clear how necessary our new 8th principle is – we agree to affirm and promote “Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions”. I am proud that we have taken the lead and become the first Canadian congregation to adopt the 8th principle, great work everyone! In the fall we will begin the work within our congregation.
Next Sunday June 20th will be my last service with you before the summer. I will be working and responding to email until Sunday June 27th, I am speaking at the Sarnia Port Huron Fellowship that day as part of my contributions to the larger denomination.
