Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast for Afghani Family

Please join The UCM Social Justice Committee and the UCM Board in supporting our first UCM fundraiser since 2016 for refugee families.

The Tafler-Rylett family and the UCM board is supporting the refugee application for an Afghan family of six, to arrive hopefully in 2023, with a Pancake Breakfast at Janis Alton’s expansive backyard at 10:00 am on Saturday Sept. 10th. Tickets are $30 for pancakes, scrambled eggs, maple syrup, bacon or sausage, fruit and coffee/tea. Extra monetary donations are welcome.

Number of tickets are limited, and you can purchase a ticket in advance by sending an e-transfer to Cathy Tafler:
Email: taflerrylett@gmail.com
Password for transfer: Pancakes
Note/comment: Afghan Refugee Fundraiser

The Afghan family has escaped recently to Pakistan (they were targeted for persecution as allies of the former Afghan government and Canada), and it will require about $35,000 to  successfully sponsor them for a year in Canada. Sally Rylett has already started fundraising online and the Pancake Breakfast will accelerate her efforts. See poster or look below for more details.

UCM is sponsoring an Afghani family of six to arrive in 2023, and we are FunRaising with delicious food, music and outdoor games in Janis A.’s expansive backyard. Tickets are $30 per adult and $15 for pre-teen children.
Everyone will gather at the UCM Great Hall parking lot at 84 South Service Rd. (near
Hurontario and the QEW) at 9:45 am, Sat. September 10th and we will carpool or shuttle you
to Janis’ place. The breakfast starts at 10:00. In case of rain, the event will be inside at the
Great Hall.
UCM member Sally met this family’s father while doing international volunteer work. The father
ran an informal cafe to bridge cultural divides and soothe tensions between different groups in a
refugee camp. He returned to Afghanistan a few years ago to care for his dying father. Since
returning to Afghanistan, he was employed by the previous Afghan government, which has
made him and his family a target since the Taliban take-over in August 2021.
You may purchase tickets on Eventbrite (with small fee) Gala Pancake Breakfast FunRaiser
for Afghan Refugee Family Sat, 10 Sep 2022 at 9:45 AM | Eventbrite or email Cathy Tafler at
taflerrylett@gmail.com and purchase by e-transfer without fees. Donations are welcome.

We welcome you to join us.
