Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters and the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga invite you to participate in our fundraising Friendship Walk on April 23, 2022.
Purpose
We are fundraising in order to sponsor a very special weekend event on June 17, 18 and 19th, 2022. This very special weekend will include Indigenous drumming, dancing and music, traditional food, story-telling, workshops, an art show, and craft vendors. There will be special spiritual ceremonies including the burning of sacred fires, a tree-planting for the children of the residential school systems and smudging ceremonies. The Friendship Weekend is an 8th Principle Project of the Unitarian Congregation. All are welcome to participate in this event.
The lead Friendship Walkers are Barry Gilbert of the Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters and Susan Berry of the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga.
Route
They will lead the walk from the Small Arms Inspection Building to the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga. The 8-km walk will go along Lakeshore Road across the river, doubling back to Hurontario and to the Unitarian church on South Service Road, east of Hurontario.
The “United in Friendship and Healing” will be an opportunity for Indigenous and Non-indigenous people to come together in a cultural sharing. This is a celebration of the recently adopted 8th Principle of Unitarians: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions. It is a step towards Healing and Reconciliation.
Donations
Susan and Barry invite you to support this walk in whatever way you can, either by joining in as a walker and collecting pledges online at CanadaHelps.org or if you prefer, you can email Susan Berry at susanberry@hotmail.com download this pledge form and begin collecting pledges.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 goal from local sponsorship and pledges.
