Daytimers on Zoom
Wednesday November 3rd at 12pm for sharing, 12:30pm program
Rev. Fiona will be joining us this week to tell us about the English novelist Elizabeth Gaskell (1810-65). Best known for Cranford, Wives & Daughters, and North & South, Elizabeth was born into a Unitarian family and married a Unitarian minister. A friend and contemporary of Charles Dickens and the Brontes, Elizabeth was a popular novelist writing melodrama that critiqued Victorian social norms. Her works were largely forgotten for a century but television adaptations brought her back into the public eye. Rev. Fiona will look at how her faith shaped her life and her novels.
