Amnesty International Letter Campaign

Our UCM Amnesty group has created three letters for members to review. The cases focus on Zimbabwe, Israel, and Iran.

The first letter to the government of Zimbabwe expresses concern about arrests of journalists, obstruction of NGO human rights activities, and blanket powers under the Patriot Act to suppress freedom of expression. This letter complements Fiona’s Intellectual Wellness theme this Sunday. The second letter describes extended solitary confinement of a Palestinian youth convicted at 14 years old without proper legal representation. It urges the Israeli courts and prison services to give the same rights to Palestinian youth as to Israelis convicted of similar crimes. The third letter exposes a campaign of employment discrimination and property destruction of a small Baha’i religious group in Iran, ominously similar to the Nazi campaign against Jews in the 1930s.

Please read the three letters and sign them if you agree. We will send the letters by mail to the Canadian embassies, and by email to the three governments.

Thank you for your support of Amnesty International.
