UU-UNO at the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga

The Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA's) involvement in the United Nations can be traced to the early part of the 20th century. Both the Unitarians and the Universalists were active in the League of Nations Asso

ciation and later closely monitored the creation of the United Nations.  The founding of the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO) can be traced to April of 1962.

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga is a Blue Ribbon Congregation.

Sex, Love and Violence: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in a Globalized World

On October 27 we will be celebrating UN Sunday. This is an annual service dedicated to reaffirming the connections between our UU principles and the work of the Unitarian Universalist UN Office. This year the theme is Sex, Love and Violence: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in a Globalized World. To date, the General Assembly of the UN has not passed a declaration regarding LGBTQ rights, although progress has been made within other committees and councils. The UU-UNO has presented a statement to the UN regarding the need to promote the inherent woth and dignity of every person, regardless of their Sexuality or Gender Identity. On this day every year we dedicate our UN Sunday offering to the work of the UU-UNO. A global action guide for more information about LGBT rights around the world can be downloaded at http://www.uua.org/documents/uu-uno/guides/lgbt_global_action.pdf
