Seedy Saturday

February 24 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Our 14th Seedy Saturday in Mississauga!  We welcome inspired, aspiring and experienced gardeners and seed savers, young and young-at-heart.  Shake off the winter blahs and visit our exhibitor tables with dedicated community seed exchange centre, take in a gardening or environmentally-themed workshop, nourish yourself with tasty treats from our Cozy Café, and place a bid on our silent auction items.  Anyone can bring seeds to share with others at our community seed exchange centre, and anyone can take some home. Educational workshops are a main attraction for eager learners, with topics this year ranging from Native Plants to Celebrating Local Rivers to Gardening for Urban Dwellers. After taking in a workshop or two, come visit the Great Hall packed with exhibitors. Bring the wee ones, and have them get garden inspired in the Kids Korner with Ecosource.  Try hands-on activities such as making wildflower seed spheres and playing seed-veggie matching, or sit for storytelling and seed yoga.  Activities are on-going through the day.  Fill your belly with delicious treats and wholesome lunch from the Cozy Café.  Take a chance at winning one of our raffle prizes by buying a ticket from our prize table.   A highlight this year is speaker Terrylynn Brant. Terryylynn is a Haudenosaunee Seedkeeper living in her traditional territory, Ohsweken, Six Nations and works to welcome settlers, original peoples and nature, in acts of reconciliation with seeds, gardens, the earth and each other through her Mohawk Seedkeeper Garden. Her talk Sacred Seeds will explore the connection to seed in the traditional and ceremonial world of this land's original gardeners. We will then try and connect the relationship to the world of food today and how our responsibilities need to be in step with Mother Earth as we must move towards Global Food Security. 9:30 – 10 am The Riverwood Conservancy,...
